1. About this policy

This policy explains how Pauline Tarrant Consulting ("we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on our website and on our hosted business management platform at https://paulinetarrant.com (the Platform).

It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains more broadly how we handle personal information.

We have written this policy to the standard set by the European ePrivacy rules and the General Data Protection Regulation, because that is the strictest common benchmark and it produces a clearer document. Where those rules give you a specific right and Australian law does not, we extend it to you anyway.

2. What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. When you return to the site, your browser sends the cookie back, which lets the site recognise your session.

Cookies are described as:

  1. Session cookies, which are deleted when you close your browser, or persistent cookies, which stay until they expire or you delete them.
  2. First-party cookies, set by the site you are visiting, or third-party cookies, set by some other domain whose content is embedded in the page.

Related technologies do a similar job by different means. Local storage and session storage keep data in your browser rather than sending it back with each request. Pixels and web beacons are tiny images used to record that a page or email was opened. Where we use any of these, we treat them the same way as cookies for the purposes of this policy.

3. The rule we apply

We split cookies into two groups.

Strictly necessary cookies are those without which the service simply cannot work — keeping you logged in, protecting your session against forgery, and remembering the choice you made about cookies. These do not require your consent, because you cannot use the Platform without them and they exist only to deliver the service you asked for. You can block them in your browser, but you will not be able to log in.

Everything else — analytics, preference cookies, embedded third-party content, advertising — requires your consent before it is set. That means:

  1. nothing non-essential is set before you choose,
  2. refusing is as easy as accepting, with no pre-ticked boxes and no dark patterns,
  3. you can change your mind at any time, and withdrawing is as easy as consenting was,
  4. refusing does not degrade the service, and
  5. we ask again if the purpose changes materially.

4. Cookies we use

The Platform runs on the Frappe framework. The cookies below are set by the Platform itself, on the paulinetarrant.com domain. All are first-party.

CookiePurposeTypeExpires
sidSession identifier. This is what keeps you logged in — the server uses it to recognise your session on each request.Strictly necessaryEnd of session, or on logout
user_idIdentifies which account the session belongs to, so the correct records and permissions are loaded.Strictly necessaryEnd of session
system_userRecords whether the account is a staff/desk account or a website account, which determines what interface is served.Strictly necessaryEnd of session
full_nameYour display name, so the interface can show who is signed in without an extra request.FunctionalEnd of session
user_imageThe location of your profile picture, used the same way.FunctionalEnd of session
cookie_consentRemembers the cookie choice you made, so we do not ask you on every page.Strictly necessary12 months

The Platform also uses your browser's local storage to cache interface data — recently viewed documents, list view filters, sidebar state, and similar. This never leaves your browser and is not transmitted to us. Clearing your browser data removes it.

5. Third-party cookies

We do not currently use third-party advertising or analytics cookies. We do not run Google Analytics, advertising pixels, social media trackers, or any service that profiles you across other websites.

If you connect the Platform to another service, or follow a link from it to a third-party site, that site sets its own cookies under its own policy. We have no control over those and this policy does not cover them.

If we ever add a third-party service that sets cookies, we will update this policy, list the service here, and ask for your consent before it loads.

6. Managing cookies

Through us. If a cookie banner or preference control is available on the site, you can change your choices there at any time.

Through your browser. Every major browser lets you view stored cookies, delete them individually or in bulk, block third-party cookies, and block all cookies for a specific site. The controls sit under Settings → Privacy in Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari. Browser help pages document the exact steps and are kept more current than any list we could publish here.

Be aware that blocking all cookies for erp.paulinetarrant.com will prevent you from logging in, and clearing cookies will sign you out.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. We do not set tracking cookies, so there is nothing for these signals to switch off. If that ever changes, we will honour Global Privacy Control signals.

7. Cookies and personal information

Some of the cookies above relate to an identified person — user_id identifies your account, and sid links to your session. Under the GDPR that makes them personal data, and under the Australian Privacy Act it makes them personal information.

Where we rely on necessity rather than consent for these, our lawful basis is the performance of our contract with you: we cannot provide an authenticated service without a session cookie.

Your rights over this information — access, correction, erasure, objection, complaint — are set out in our Privacy Policy and apply to cookie data in the same way as to anything else we hold.

8. Changes

We will update this policy if we change which cookies we use. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If a change introduces non-essential cookies, we will ask for your consent before setting them rather than relying on the updated policy alone.

9. Contact
